Abstract:

Owing to rapid increase in computing power and successful development of materials simulation methods, predicting power of (sub) atomic level computation of materials has been significantly increased. It is thus expected that the paradigm shift in materials science may occur via the convergence of materials science and advanced ICT technology. However, there still remains high entrance barrier for non-theoretical researchers to employ the computational materials science methods for their own research or development. Therefore, web based materials design platform where the computational simulation technique is combined with WEB 2.0 technology, draw much attention to decrease the entrance barrier. Recently, the materials design platform was selected as a major agenda for promoting the national capability of the materials science in Korea. 

 

We are developing the Web 2.0 based virtual fab for design of nano materials and lithium ion battery materials. We built the working environment that mimics the procedure of the experimental works in nano-fab of real space as closely as possible. Sample preparation room, processing room and analysis rooms are provided with simulation modules for major processes such as annealing, etching, oxidation, deposition and implantations and for major analysis tools like ‘simuloscope’, AFM/STM and IV measurement equipment. Virtual Fab for Li ion battery materials is composed of Anode Design Lab, Cathode Design Lab, Electrolyte Design Lab. I will demonstrate the virtual fab and address the issues for further development of robust virtual design environment.
